Due to the developed concentration, we have two critical abilities for working on consciousness: attentiveness, that is, the ability to notice what is happening both outside and inside the body, and vigilance, or alertness, the ability to respond quickly to what is happening.

When we achieve sustained concentration and acquire attentiveness and vigilance, we gain awareness. This is the ability to connect everything that we notice – that is, to keep many objects in the field of our concentration and to observe their dynamics. This makes our body calmer and more stress-resistant in general, which facilitates our further practice.
